‘Be
here now’ is a well known saying, and it is really helpful to be able to enjoy
the present moment rather than allowing our thoughts to drift into ‘worry
mode’—thinking about the future or regretting the past. An aspect of learning
the technique of meditation is thought control and observing thoughts in a
detached way can be a part of this.
However,
there are times when allowing our thoughts to dwell on the past can encourage
feelings of wellbeing and joy, and bring inspiration for the future. Happy
thoughts are catching! They encourage more happy thoughts and smiling faces.
Here
in the UK we are now in school holiday time and I have been watching many
children playing in the sunshine, and happy families enjoying time together.
This has led me to reflect on happy holidays when my children were young,
building sandcastles, searching for pretty shells, and lots of fun and carefree
laughter. How good it is to have a break in daily routine and take time to
enjoy life together. This is one reason we have always had ‘holiday periods’ in
the white Eagle Lodge. Taking time out renews the ‘inner well’ from which we
give in the busy days of work. Memories of happy times in the past, especially
with loved ones who can only join us now in their heavenly bodies of light, are
very precious. They are like a treasure chest……treasure them.
